Our Topic: Oceans, Seas and Rivers

Our topic this term is 'Oceans, Seas and Rivers'. This is a geography based topic where we will be exploring where our water comes from and looking at the impact of climate change and plastic pollution. In English, we will be reading Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and basing our writing around this text.

Reading

In Year 5, the children choose their own books to read at home. Not only does this promote independence but the children pick books that interest them and therefore get more enjoyment from their reading. The children should be reading 5 times a week and this should also include reading with an adult, where an adult can extend their understanding by asking questions about the text.

 Homework

The children will be set weekly homework on a Friday. This will include reading, maths and spellings on EdShed.
