Term 4

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Term 4, hopefully the rain and grey weather will be behind us soon and we can start using the field and enjoying some outside PE and other learning on our lovely new field.

On Tuesday we introduced our new geography topic which is ‘Polar Regions and the water cycle’.  We will be learning about this unusual biome, it’s inhabitants, culture, industry and wildlife.

In Maths we have finished securing our mental and written strategies for multiplication and division and also completed the basic understanding of perimeter and rectilinear shapes.  We are now moving into fractions including tenths and hundredths. Please encourage the children to consistently practice their times tables on TT Rockstars, 10 minutes a day is far more effective than an hour once a week.

In Literacy we have already begun to explore ‘The Lost Thing’, a picture book by Shaun Tan.  This book is brilliant for inferring emotions, thoughts and feelings, and also generating description to allow for better expanded noun phrases and generally more detail.  Please remember that the yellow reading records should have inference written in them 5 times a week, with evidence to support their answer.

The PE curriculum for this term covers Tag Rugby on Monday and OAA on a Thursday.  For the rugby, we are hoping to be outside and using the proper rugby balls as much as possible, consequently on a Wednesday we may find that the children are a little muddy until the weather improves.  Please make sure that your child has trainers in school for outdoor play, these can also be used then for outdoor PE.

In Science we will be looking at changing states of matter; solids, liquids and gasses and experimenting with what happens when they are mixed, heated and cooled.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if any concerns or queries arise throughout the year, if you need to speak to me face to face this can currently be arranged through the office. I do also appreciate however that with work and other commitments this might not be possible so have included my email below.
